Founded on August 12, 2001 by Pastor Steven Campbell and Lady Eleanor Denise Campbell, the Bethesda Temple of Detroit Apostolic Faith Ministry has from the beginning sought to fulfill its mission of building hope within the followers of Jesus Christ, knowing that through Him, one can and will receive Healing, Deliverance, Rebirth, Substance, Wisdom, Maturity, and Liberty. Their story is a true testament to the power of walking by faith.

Healing and Deliverance

Bread was first broken at a small office complex on West Eight Mile Road in Southfield, Michigan where Bethesda Temple held its first worship service. Though gratified, the original plans for the building had been modified thus presenting a challenge to the continuance of their good work. Pastor and Lady Campbell held steadfast to their mission and summons from the Lord by resuming services in their home as well as at the homes of several members of the congregation. The Lord soon placed the First Family along with their congregation on a journey towards a new home. After a three month search, they were led to a building on the west side of Detroit located at 20135 Joy Road. Compelled by faith, Pastor Campbell contacted the owner of the building, Mr. Sam Abdullah, about acquiring the building as Bethesda Temple’s new home and was subsequently given control of the building. The men and women of Bethesda Temple did not hesitate to begin cleaning the space and preparing it for worship services. At the beginning of 2002, the first service in the new building was held.

Rebirth and Wisdom

Though blessed in their new home, the desire to have their own house of worship still burned deeply within the members of Bethesda. After two years of much prayer, fasting and sacrifice, the Lord directed Bethesda to a beautiful, new church home at Schaeffer and Chalfonte. Finally
Bethesda Temple had a place of their own to be used to spread the Gospel throughout its congregation and the community. The first service was held at 15025 Schaeffer on September 19, 2004.

Substance, Maturity and Liberty

As the members of Bethesda Temple continue to grow and mature in Christ through teaching and fellowship, they have already begun several programs to carry out their Christian duties. These include a mini food program administered through their Christian Education Department as well as an evangelism outreach program entitled, “Take it to the Street,” which includes a collection of CDs and DVDs available through the Media Ministry
